NOTRA Oval Racing
ASFA Lure Coursing
GIT (Gazehounds in Texas) is a sighthound club, dedicated to the sports of amateur racing and lure coursing. Racing and lure coursing allow hounds to enjoy their natural instincts to run, but in our case the lure is just a white plastic bag, or a piece of synthetic fur. We hold 200 yard straight track (sprint) races under the rules of LGRA (the Large Gazehound Racing Association) and 350 yard oval races under the auspices of NOTRA (National Oval Track Racing Association).
Our racing events are open to all approved sighthound breeds except Whippet straight-racing. It’s not that we don’t like Whippets, but they have their own racing organizations (NAWRA and CWA). However, we do offer racing for Whippets at our NOTRA meets.
If you are new to racing, here are the two most important rules:
Racing is a very labor intensive sport. If you plan to show up, plan to work. If you don’t plan to help, don’t plan to come. You don’t need any experience, but please be willing to pitch in!
See rule #1 above 😉 We’d love to have you come out, but we’re serious about being willing to help.
If you are interested in racing your sighthound, send an e-mail and we will try to help you get started. Also, be sure to read carefully all the info listed under “Getting Started”
